One topic per film, explained by the clinicians who do the work. For the Institute of Eye Surgery we made a series of 15: what to expect at a consultation, laser eye surgery, cataract surgery, dry eye, low vision and more, most of them between one and two minutes long. The pace is deliberately unhurried, because the viewer is often nervous, and close shots of the tests and scans show exactly what will happen.
Short films on one subject are easy to send before an appointment, play on a waiting-room screen or link from a booking email, and one can be updated without remaking the rest. The same series included a film for community optometrists on the clinic’s shared-care pathway for cataract patients, so one shoot served patients and professionals alike.
