Safeguarding, explained again, for Special Olympics Ireland

Special Olympics Ireland had a safeguarding video from another supplier whose words were right but whose animation it couldn’t use. In August 2023 it asked us to rebuild the visuals around the same voiceover. We produced a new animation with the charity’s safeguarding team, and the final was signed off in February 2024.

What Special Olympics Ireland needed, and what we made

When
August 2023 to February 2024
Length
A 3:46 animated film
Funding
Supported by the EU

What they needed

A safeguarding film the charity could actually use, keeping the voiceover and wording it already had, with new visuals from start to finish.

What we produced

A flat 2D animation built over the existing voiceover. We ran it with a specialist animation partner: style frames, then a storyboard the charity signed off, then animation, then subtitles and the funder’s end card.

Designed for the audience

The charity’s notes shaped the look. An easy-to-read font, a calm green instead of red, which can upset some viewers, and characters that look like its athletes, most of whom are adults.

What we delivered

  • Style frames
  • A storyboard, signed off first
  • A 3:46 animated film
  • Subtitles
  • An end card for the EU funder
  • Changes made with the safeguarding team

Style frames, a storyboard, signed off first, a 3:46 animated film, subtitles, an end card for the EU funder, changes made with the safeguarding team.

From brief to final

Storyboard first, then animation, with the safeguarding team at every step.

  1. Step 01

    August 2023: the brief

The charity explained what hadn’t worked with the old video and what had to stay.

  2. Step 02

    October 2023: the look

Style frames in October, then a storyboard the charity signed off before anything moved.

  3. Step 03

    December 2023: one more pass

A revised storyboard was approved, and the charity sent the clean voiceover file.

  4. Step 04

January to February 2024: the final

The final cut went out in January, and the subtitles were signed off in February.
